Facility manager in mass spectroscopy and chromatography
Description of the scientific environment
The Department of Plant and Environmental Sciences is a large department (>400 employees) dedicated to plant, microbial, and environmental sciences (http://plen.ku.dk/english/).
The position is affiliated with the Section for Molecular Plant Biology (http://plen.ku.dk/english/research/molecular_plant_biology/) and Section for Plant Biochemistry (http://plen.ku.dk/english/research/plant_biochemistry/). The Sections are part of the Copenhagen Plant Science Centre (http://cpsc.ku.dk/).
The aim of the position is to strengthen our newly established user-paid metabolomics platform within plant metabolite profiling with special focus on specialized metabolites. The facility manager will be in charge of running and advancing our key metabolomics platform at the Department of Plant and Environmental Sciences.
The unit encompasses state-of-the-art equipment within LC-MS and GC-MS including three LC-MS'es (one single-quadrupole, a triple-quad and an ion-trap-MS), five HPLCs (of which one is preparative) and three GC-MS systems (http://cpsc.ku.dk/facilities/metabolomics-facilities/). Advising the users, development of methods, analysis of samples, managing booking and payments systems, as well as maintenance of current and to be acquired mass spectroscopy and chromatography equipment is the major task within the position. Currently a research assistant is hired on the platform and the facility manager will be responsible for the daily management of the research assistant.

In connection with the appointment to the position special emphasis will be given to the applicant’s professional and personal skills as stated below:
- Strong theoretical and practical competences within analytical chemistry and especially mass spectroscopy and chromatography.
- Have strong hands-on experience within chromatography and mass spectroscopy of small molecules.
- Enjoy practical work with hardware and software related to analytical chemistry.
- Possess excellent analytical capabilities.
- Possess excellent interpersonal skills.
- Able to perform team-oriented as well as independent work.
- Holding a relevant PhD degree would be advantageous, but not a requirement.
Employment will be in accordance with the provisions of the collective agreement between the Danish Government and AC (the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations). Employment will be as senior consultant.
A supplement can be negotiated, depending on experience and qualifications.
