Faculty of Science
University of Copenhagen

and

Center for Genomic Medicine,
Copenhagen University Hospital,
Rigshospitalet

The introduction of genomic data in the clinic raises the prospect of more precise diagnosis and treatment. The translation of algorithms and tools developed within bioinformatics to the clinical setting is important to realize the full potential of big data in medicine. This position will strengthen the research in Bioinformatics, Machine Learning and Big Data specifically to advance the clinical use of genomic information. Furthermore, the position will consolidate and expand the collaboration between the Department of Biology (http://www1.bio.ku.dk/english/), University of Copenhagen and the Center for Genomic Medicine, Copenhagen University Hospital, Rigshospitalet.
The Section for Computational and RNA Biology at the Department of Biology employs around 40 researchers, and has many connections with high-profile experimental groups both locally and internationally. The section is located at the Biocenter in central Copenhagen, Denmark, and is well funded with significant computer infrastructure and support. Information about the Section can be found at http://www1.bio.ku.dk/binf. The Bioinformatics Centre is an integral part of the Section for Computational and RNA Biology that comprises 12 research groups and ~70 staff members. We offer state-of-the-art office and laboratory facilities and administrative support.
The Center for Genomic Medicine was established in 2010 as a strategic initiative to bring genome wide technologies to patient care. The laboratory is currently one of Denmark largest providers of molecular analysis and produce about 5000 complex genomic analysis every year - including more than 1000 exomes. The laboratory currently comprises about 40 technicians and academic personnel. The Center is currently structuring a bioinformatics platform for  patient analysis and research that will serve the entire Capital Region and the Professor will be part of this initiative. Information about Genomic Medicine may be found at http://www.genomic-medicine.dk/.
