PhD fellow in Dynamic Tomography

Department of Computer Science, Faculty of Science at University of Copenhagen (DIKU) is offering a PhD scholarship in Reconstruction of Dynamic Computed Tomography Images commencing 1 December 2017 or as soon as possible thereafter on condition of the acquisition of the necessary funding.

Project description
The goal of the project is to develop algorithms for improved reconstruction of time varying three dimensional biological structures with the focus on the beating tail of spermatozoa. The focus will be developing reconstruction algorithms, but as part of the project, a simple simulator must be built to test algorithms, and the student will take part in imaging biological material at some of the world’s synchrotron radiation facilities. Examples of techniques to be used during the development of the algorithms are: time varying radon transform, invariant feature detections, Bayesian inference, and motion compensation.

Principal supervisor is Associate Professor, Jon Sporring, Department of Computer Science, sporring@diku.dk, Direct Phone: +45 2448 2894.

Description of the scientific environment
This project is part of the newly started consortium for Max IV Medical Imagers, which is a collaboration between DIKU (http://diku.dk/english/); The Technical University of Denmark (DTU, http://www.dtu.dk/english); and Danish Research Centre for Magnetic Resonance, Hvidovre Hospital (DRCMR, http://www.drcmr.dk). The candidate will work partly at the Image Group at DIKU and partly at DRCMR, and the candidate will have ample opportunity to interact with world-class researchers at DIKU, DTU, DRCMR and MAX IV.
