A neuroimaging approach to the puzzle of early Theory of Mind  
 
The project “DEVOMIND”, directed by Professor Victoria Southgate, is hiring a postdoctoral researcher. The expected starting date is 1 April 2018, or as soon as possible thereafter. The position is available for three years, with possibility of extension for a further year.
 
The postdoctoral position is situated at the Department of Psychology, University of Copenhagen, where the PI is currently establishing a new laboratory for studying early childhood cognition. The lab will have space for behavioural studies, as well as equipment for EEG, fNIRS and eye tracking.  
 
Qualifications  
The candidates must have obtained a PhD degree in Psychology, Neuroscience or a related discipline. The preferred candidate will have good theoretical knowledge of the field of early social cognition, in particular the current state of research in Theory of Mind. The candidate should have experience with conducting experiments using both behavioural and neuroimaging methods for studying early cognitive development, including eye tracking, EEG or fNIRS. The preferred candidate would also have experience using these methods with infants and young children. Knowledge of programming in Matlab would be an advantage.  
 
We expect the candidate to have good collaborative skills, as well as skills in the realm of verbal and written communication, as evidenced by a strong publication record. The candidate must have an international outlook, and be able to work independently and proactively. Spoken Danish is not a requirement, as the post-doc will work together with a Danish-speaking research assistant.  
 
Job description  
The successful candidate will work on the new ERC-funded project “DEVOMIND: How do infants mentalize? Bringing a neuroimaging approach to the puzzle of early mindreading”. The project is aimed at trying to understand how young infants are succeeding on nonverbal Theory of Mind paradigms, despite their limited capacity for inhibitory control and self-awareness. The candidate will take responsibility for one of the streams of research, involving designing, implementing and leading investigations involving either EEG or fNIRS, depending on the candidate’s background.  
 
As part of the position, the candidate will be involved in setting up a new laboratory for studying early childhood cognition, including some involvement in recruitment of participants. As part of the project, international workshops will be organised to foster discussion with others in the field, and the postdocs hired on this project will contribute to the organization of these workshops. It is also expected that the successful candidate will disseminate the output of the project by attending international conferences. The candidate will be expected to contribute to daily lab-life, including taking part in reading groups and collaborating with other members of the lab.  
 
Salary and conditions of employment  
Salary and conditions of employment will be in accordance with the agreement between the Danish Ministry of Finance and the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations (AC). The annual salary for postdoctoral researchers is within the range DKR 392,000 – 413,000 (EUR 52,600 – 55,400 app.). In addition to the salary paid directly to you, the University will also pay a monthly contribution to your pension fund corresponding to 17.1 % of your salary. The application shall be submitted in English and include a CV, a short motivation letter (maximum 1 page), a copy of the doctoral certificate or letter signed by the promotor that a doctoral certificate is expected in due time, a publication list, and a maximum number of three scientific publications, at least two of which are international journal articles. Teaching portfolio and references can also be included, if available.
