Associate Professor in Outdoor Recreation and Green Space Planning

Department of Geosciences and Natural Resource Management, Faculty of Science, University of Copenhagen invites applications for a position as Associate Professor within the cross-fields of outdoor recreation research, nature perception, and green space planning. The position is expected to be filled by 1 February 2018 or as soon possible thereafter. 
 
Candidates for this position must have a Ph.D. in outdoor recreation, green space planning, or a related field and must have worked with research in relevant fields in a Post Doc position or similar. Preference will be given to candidates with a demonstrated track record in teaching and research related to outdoor recreation, nature perception, green space planning, spatial analysis, mapping, and/or active living. It is expected that the successful candidate will maintain a strong research program on planning and management in relation to recreation and active living in urban, suburban, rural, and natural settings. The candidate should be comfortable working with interdisciplinary perspectives, within an international research and teaching context, and applying the knowledge to urban forestry, green space planning and related planning, policy and management domains. The candidate should have demonstrated success in peer-reviewed publishing and in attracting significant research funding. 
 
Applicants will be assessed based on their qualifications within the following scientific areas: 
  • Recreation and cultural ecosystem services 
  • Recreation resource assessment and geo-spatial mapping 
  • Recreation and citizen science, Volunteered Geographic Information (VGI), and participatory mapping 
  • Recreation and nature perception, values, and place 
  • Recreation and park management, planning and governance 
  • Green space planning, urban forestry, and green infrastructure
  • Recreational and other socio-cultural aspects of nature in the city, e.g. related to green space management and active transportation/active living. 
Applicants are required to have university level teaching experience, documented teaching competencies and must be able to explain and reflect upon own teaching practice and portfolio. Formal pedagogical training or supervision equivalent to the University of Copenhagen teacher training programme for assistant professors is required. 
 
Experience with multi-disciplinary collaboration with other fields of social science and natural science will be a significant advantage. Similarly, experience with planning and management of national and international projects is considered an advantage. Applicants who are not proficient in Danish or another Scandinavian language must over a short span of years be able to teach and supervise in Danish and carry out public sector consultancy in Danish. 
 
Duties include the applicant’s own research, development of the field, grant applications, and other research management. The position includes responsibility for research-based teaching in outdoor recreation and nature perception (with associated supervision and examination duties). The successful applicant must also teach, supervise, prepare and participate in examinations, and fulfill other tasks requested by the Department. 
 
Assessment of applicants will primarily consider their level of documented, original scientific production at an international level, including contributions to developments in their field, as well as their documented teaching qualifications and experiences. Managerial and out-reach qualifications of applicants including ability to attract external funding will also be considered. 
 
The Associate Professor will be a member of the staff in the department’s Section for Landscape Architecture and Planning. The Section has a staff of approximately 100 including 30 Ph.D. students and is organized in five Research Groups. The section is responsible for the Landscape Architecture program at University of Copenhagen with an annual uptake of 60 students. Terms of employment
 The position is covered by the Memorandum on Job Structure for Academic Staff. 
Terms of appointment and payment accord to the agreement between the Ministry of Finance and The Danish Confederation of Professional Associations on Academics in the State. 
 
Commencing salary is currently for Assoc. Professor – up to DKK 455,206 including annual supplement (+ pension up to DKK 77,840). Negotiation for salary supplement is possible.
