The candidate must have obtained a PhD degree in Economics, Environmental and Resource Economics or similar fields. The applicant should have proven research experience. The ideal candidate will have prior knowledge of and academic publications in the field of Environmental Economics and some experience with valuation of environmental goods and services and/or green national accounting. This position is primarily aimed at applicants who have obtained their Ph.D. in Economics within the past three years.

Job description
The post doc position is an integral part of a research project aimed at developing a method for measuring Denmark’s Green Net National Product (GNNP) and estimating a time series for its evolution. The project aims to extend the existing international scientific literature on Green National Accounting by 1) Clarifying how the value of important ecosystem services is related to land use and land use change, 2) Clarifying how a “carbon budget” for allowable greenhouse gas emissions affects the evolution of the GNNP, 3) Illustrating how an “environmental trade balance” can be calculated by estimating flows of pollution between Denmark and the rest of the world, and 4) Developing a method for “scaling up” estimates of the value of local environmental goods to a plausible value of the corresponding good at the national level. Compared to previous studies for other countries, the present project will also include a wider range of environmental goods and services in the calculation of the GNNP, drawing on the literature on ecosystem service valuation and land use change and adding to the ongoing activities of mapping and valuing ecosystem services in Denmark.

The project is a cooperative effort between researchers from Copenhagen University’s Department of Economics and the Department of Food and Resource Economics. The project will involve cooperation with the Green National Accounts department of Statistics Denmark which will provide most of the data input. It will also involve interdisciplinary cooperation with a group of researchers from the Department of Political Science at Copenhagen University who are studying the political, institutional and administrative barriers to Green National Accounting in Denmark.

The work on the GNNP will be followed by an Advisory Board including representatives from the Ministry of Finance, the Ministry of Environment and Food, The Ministry of Energy, Utilities and Climate, Statistics Denmark, the Danish Economic Councils, and the Danish Council on Climate Change.

Salary and conditions of employment
A postdoctoral position is a fixed-term academic position. The position is heavily weighted in favour of research. Other duties (e.g. research administration) may, furthermore, have to be performed to a limited extent. The University determines the exact ratio between the various responsibilities. The ratio may vary over time.

Salary and conditions of employment will be in accordance with the agreement between the Danish Ministry of Finance and the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations (AC). The annual salary for postdoctoral researchers is within the range DKR 392,000 – 413,000 (EUR 52,600 – 55,400 app.). In addition to the salary paid directly to you, the University will also pay a monthly contribution to your pension fund corresponding to 17.1 % of your salary. Negotiation for additional supplements will be possible. A special tax scheme is offered for researcher’s recruited abroad, see https://ism.ku.dk/onarrival/taxes/
