Postdoc position in cell-based models of cardiovascular intervention

Department of Drug Design and Pharmacology
Faculty of Health and Medical Sciences
University of Copenhagen

We are looking for a highly motivated and dynamic researcher for a 2-year Postdoc position to start March 1st 2025 or as soon as possible thereafter. The position is part of the Center for Stem Cell-based Disease modelling and Drug Screening (StemScreen; https://stemscreen.ku.dk/), affiliated to The Novo Nordisk Foundation Center for Stem Cell Medicine, reNEW Copenhagen.

Our research
The postdoc position is shared between the Frølund and the Wellendorph Lab, Department of Drug Design and Pharmacology, University of Copenhagen. The project explores a novel cardiovascular target (a calcium-regulated kinase) and its involvement in cardiovascular disorders. More information about the groups can be found at our lab sites Wellendorph lab and Frølund lab and at the department webpage (https://ilf.ku.dk/).

Project description
The aim of the project is to explore a novel target in cardiovascular disorders and how it affects signalling in the heart with the long-term goal to promote drug discovery in the area. The project will use biochemical and molecular pharmacological methods as well as screening in stem cell models as part of the StemScreen consortium. Assays will be guided by previous studies on a related kinase in the brain explored in parallel to this project. The project is highly collaborative, and the postdoc is expected to take a leading role as project coordinator in the larger cross-faculty project group involving medicinal chemists, biophysicists, pharmacologists and cell biologists, and to be keen to supervise students and participate in teaching at the department.

Profile
We are looking for a highly motivated and enthusiastic scientist, who possesses the following competencies and qualifications:

  • A PhD degree in pharmaceutical or biomedical sciences
  • Documented skills in cell-culturing and cell-based assays
  • Documented expertise in calcium-regulated kinases including publications in the field
  • Solid wet lab experience in biochemistry and molecular pharmacology
  • Strong collaborative, communication and project leader skills and project coordinator skills
