Postdoc in Genetics, Microbiology, and Glycobiology
We are looking for a highly motivated and dynamic postdoc for a 2-year position, who is to commence on 1 May 2025 or after agreement.
The successful candidate will work on a project investigating the mucin-binding properties of intestinal pathogenic bacteria in pigs, with a focus on bacterial interactions with O-glycans.

Our research
We have a key interest in host-pathogen interactions in relation to gut health in the pig. Our overarching scientific focus is to elucidate the complex interactions between the intestinal microbiome and host factors and determine their separate and combined influence on intestinal health and resilience.
Your job
You will be part of an international, cross-institutional and interdisciplinary AMR (antimicrobial resistance) project called PIG-PARADIGM. The mission of PIG-PARADIGM is to deliver fundamental science required to form solutions to reduce the overall need for antimicrobial treatments, and to mitigate the spread of AMR.
Profile
We are looking for a highly motivated and enthusiastic scientist with the following competencies and experience:
Essential experience and skills:
- Ph.D. in Microbiology, Biochemistry, Glycobiology, or a related field.
- Strong background in microbiology or glycobiology with focus on host-pathogen interactions.
- Experience with techniques such as ELISA, flow cytometry, mass spectrometry, and glycan profiling.
- Proficiency in molecular microbiology techniques including cloning and expression.
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a collaborative team.
Desirable experience and skills:
- Experience with genetic manipulation of pathogens
- Familiarity with bioinformatics tools for genome and glycan analysis.
- Previous experience in supervising students or junior researchers.
Place of employment
The place of employment is at the Department of Veterinary and Animal Sciences, Faculty of Health and Medical Sciences, University of Copenhagen. We offer creative and stimulating working conditions in a dynamic and international research environment.
Terms of employment
The average weekly working hours are 37 hours per week.
The position is a fixed-term position limited to a period of two years. The starting date is 1 May 2025, or after agreement.
Salary, pension and other conditions of employment are set in accordance with the Agreement between the Ministry of Taxation and AC (Danish Confederation of Professional Associations) or another relevant organisation. Currently, the monthly salary starts at 40,615 DKK/approx. 5,415 EUR (April 2024 level). Depending on qualifications, a supplement may be negotiated. The employer will pay an additional 17.1 % to your pension fund.
Foreign and Danish applicants may be eligible for tax reductions, if they hold a PhD degree and have not lived in Denmark the last 10 years.
The position is covered by the Job Structure for Academic Staff at Universities 2020.
