Postdoc in Experimental Particle Physics

The Niels Bohr Institute Experimental Particle Physics Group in Copenhagen, Denmark, invites applications for a postdoctoral position on the ATLAS experiment. The NBI ATLAS group is part of the Discovery centre for particle physics at the Niels Bohr Institute and it currently consists of five faculty members, five postdoctoral fellows, four graduate students, plus several master and bachelor students.
The NBI ATLAS group has a long standing contribution and a strong responsibility for the operation of the transition radiation tracker (TRT) and the trigger system for the ATLAS detector at the LHC at CERN.
Furthermore we contribute to the physics exploration at the LHC high energy and intensity frontier, working on searches for new phenomena such as lepton flavor violation, heavy new bosons and neutral leptons, and on the measurement of the top quark mass.
The group has recently taken on significant responsibility in the construction of the endcap inner tracker silicon strip detector (ITk) as part of the Phase-II upgrade of the ATLAS detector.
The group wants to contribute to the development of the track trigger system for the Phase II upgrade of ATLAS. We are looking for a candidate capable to make a significant contribution to such development. We expect the candidate to contribute to the final design choices for the system for Phase II upgrade, as well as take a leading role in testing a prototype of such system, the Fast TracKer system (FTK), with Run2 data.
Furthermore, we expect the candidate to spend some fraction of time testing feasibility and advantages of using the currently developed system to other disciplines such as medicine and diagnosis specifically.
We are interested in a candidate who holds a Ph.D. degree in experimental particle physics by the time he/she starts this position. The candidate should have demonstrated experience and aptitude in trigger system development, preferably relevant to the track trigger development described above.
The position will be based at the Niels Bohr Institute, with frequent travel to CERN.
The position is initially for two years, with possibility of renewal. We wish the candidate to start at the latest February 1st 2018.
Terms of employment
The position is covered by the Memorandum on Job Structure for Academic Staff.
Terms of appointment and payment accord to the agreement between the Ministry of Finance and The Danish Confederation of Professional Associations on Academics in the State.
The starting salary is currently up to DKK 413.717 including annual supplement (+ pension up to DKK 70.746). Negotiation for salary supplement is possible.
The application, in English, must be submitted electronically by clicking APPLY NOW below.
Please include
- Curriculum vitae including 3 references (name and e-mail) at the end of the CV
- Diplomas (Master and PhD degree or equivalent)
- Research plan – description of current and future research plans
