Assistant Professor in Hematology

Assistant Professor in Hematology
(fixed-term 2 years)
Helin Group at BRIC/DanStem
University of Copenhagen

The Helin group at BRIC is looking for an ambitious candidate for a position as an assistant professor with a strong research profile and documented experience in theoretical and practical aspects of mouse models of leukemia.

Our research
Research in the Helin lab is focused on identifying novel mechanisms and genes involved in the development of human cancer. The lab has made several outstanding contributions to the field of Epigenetics and Cancer. Current work is focused on understanding the biological function of proteins involved in regulation of histone and DNA methylation and how they contribute to cancer. Moreover, the group has developed several cancer-relevant mouse models that are used both for the understanding of the role of specific proteins in cancer and for the identification of potential novel targets for the development of novel anti-cancer therapies.

The group is using a host of different techniques and model systems to achieve these goals, including loss-of-function screenings, embryonic and adult stem cells, mouse genetics and sophisticated mouse models of human cancer.

Project
The selected candidate will be part of the newly established Program for Translational Hematology, an ambitious research program under BRIC/DanStem and Rigshospitalet with the goal of improving treatment options for leukemia patients. The project will focus on the molecular mechanisms of chemotherapy-resistance in leukemia. Key techniques will include the generation and characterization of sophisticated genetically engineered mouse models of leukemia and high-throughput CRISPR-Cas9-based functional genetic screens in cellular models of chemotherapy-resistant leukemia.

Start: February 2018 or after agreement
Duration: 2 years

Qualifications
We expect you to be a highly motivated and highly ambitious scientist with the following qualifications:
• A PhD in Life Sciences
• Several years of documented postdoctoral research experience in chromatin biology and mouse models of leukemia
• Documented experience in performing and analyzing high-throughput functional genetic screens
• In-depth knowledge and a strong scientific track record within the field of chromatin cancer biology
• Excellent English skills, both written and spoken
