Postdoctoral Fellow in Neurodegeneration

Within BrainStem, patient-specific neurons are derived from induced pluripotent stem cells obtained from skin fibroblasts to study Alzheimer’s diseases with the long-term aims of patient specific treatment and drug development Another line of research deals with canine cognitive disorder (CCD), resembling some aspects of human dementia. The Postdoc will work with both human and dog cellular models of dementia and validate the usefulness of the CCD dogs as demetia models in a cellular setting.  
Project description   
The project will include functional characterization of neurons and astrocytes derived from hiPSC and the generation of canine iPSC. Canine iPSC, after completed characterization and assessment of pluripotency status and genomic integrity, will be differentiated into astrocytes and neurons and compared in functional studies to the human counterparts.  
Selection criteria  
Essential criteria   
  • PhD in Animal Husbandry Science or similar  
  • Expertise and experience in human iPSC culture and generation, hands on experience with differentiation of hiPSC into neurons and astrocytes, engineering of 3D neural organoids and CRISPR/Cas9 mediated gene editing.  
  • Excellent in English both in writing and speech  
  • Good interpersonal skills and teamwork spirit   
Desirable criteria  
  • Pyrosequencing to assess the parent of origin of hiPSC  
  • Experience with animal ES culture such as mouse ES cells including in vitro fertilization   
  • The post holder will report to Poul Hyttel and Kristine Freude  
  • The post holder is expected to interact with staff at all levels, both internally and externally, regarding relevant research topics 
Employment conditions  
Salary and other terms and conditions of appointment are set in accordance with the Agreement between the Ministry of Finance and AC (Danish Confederation of Professional Associations) or other relevant professional organisations. The position is covered by the “Memorandum on Job Structure for Academic Staff at the Universities” of June 28, 2013.  
The gross basic salary range for Postdoctoral Fellows is DKK 32,332 to DKK 34,060 per month (level 6 to 8). To the basic salary, a supplement could be negotiated, dependent on the candidate’s experience and qualifications. The employer will pay an additional 17.1 % monthly contribution to pension.  
The position is time limited to a two-year period.
