146034 Professor of Inflammatory Cardiovascular Diseases (Fixed-Term, 4 Years)

The University seeks to appoint a professor of inflammatory cardiovascular diseases to commence as soon as possible.  
The position is part-time (2 hours/5.4 %) and is limited to a 4-year period.

About the Department 
The Department of Odontology is part of the Faculty of Health and Medical Sciences, University of Copenhagen. The Department undertakes education, research and specialized treatment within the field of dentistry as well as corresponding and associated fields. 
Approximately 450 students are enrolled in the dentistry programme and the Department also hosts the postgraduate programme in orthodontics. 
The Department houses a large clinical section (with approximately 200 dental units) as well as research laboratories providing optimal facilities for clinical training and research activities. 
The Department currently has approximately 300 employees, including technical, clinical, administrative and faculty staff. 
Job Description 
The appointee is expected to pursue an independent and internationally competitive research programme within the Department of Odontology, focusing on studies of patients with chronic inflammatory diseases, including diseases caused by oral pathogens. A strong record in inflammatory cardiovascular diseases is required. Applicants with research interests that complement research in medical biology and odontology, will be preferred. Close collaboration and a formal affiliation with the nearby Copenhagen University Hospital are required.  
The professor’s responsibilities will primarily consist of: 
  • Research, including publication/academic dissemination  
  • Research-based teaching within medical disorders, including associated examination 
  • Research management, including guidance and supervision of students and postdocs 
  • Mentoring graduate and PhD students, pursuing their Master’s or PhD degrees
  • Obligation to share knowledge with the rest of society, including participation in public debate 
  • Preparation of grant applications 
  • Academic assessments  
Foreign appointees are expected to be able to teach in Danish within a 3-year period. 
Required Qualifications  
The successful applicant should be able to: 
  • Document a high degree of original academic production at an international level, including considerable contributions to the development of on human chronic inflammatory disease, including oral inflammation, with a high activity over recent years 
  • Manage research and other management functions, e.g. engage in the university’s external academic activities, as well as knowledge and technology transfer 
  • Provide research-based teaching 
Terms of employment 
Salary and other terms and conditions of appointment are set in accordance with the Agreement between the Ministry of Finance and AC (Danish Confederation of Professional Associations) or other relevant professional organizations. The position is covered by the Job Structure for Academic Staff at Universities (2013).
