Associate Professor in Veterinary Clinical Microbiology

Job description 
In considering applicants for the associate professorship, the main emphasis will be on the applicant’s ability to document a high level of original scientific work on an international level within the area of veterinary clinical microbiology and infection microbiology. The associate professor will have responsibilities for pre- and post-graduate courses as well as PhD courses in veterinary microbiology and infection microbiology. Experience with developing of teaching material in relation to infection microbiology and veterinary microbiology will be of high priority.  The applicant will have responsibilities within the area of research-based governmental advisory service. 

The associate professor’s duties will primarily consist of: 
  • research, including obligations with regard to publication/scientific communication  
  • research-based teaching  with associated examination duties  
  • research leadership as well as educational guidance and supervision of assistant professors and students at different educational levels  
  • research-based government advisory service 
  • professional assessment work  
Qualification requirements 
Main emphasis will be put on the applicant’s ability to document original scientific work at the highest international level within the area of veterinary infection microbiology. The successful candidate will have experience from one or more of the following topics:  
  • bacteria-host interaction 
  • molecular epidemiology  
  • alternatives to antimicrobial treatment.
The candidate is further expected to have documented experience with teaching infection microbiology and veterinary microbiology for pre- and post-graduate students. Previous experience with research-based advisory service of Danish governmental institutions is not a requirement, but insight into one or more of the major sectors of Danish livestock industry will be considered an advantage.  
Further, candidates for the associate professorship are required to have: 
  • Shown ability to attract funding for own research 
  • Experience with management of cross border collaboration between university and private sector.  
  • Teaching qualifications such as an assistant professor or equivalent within the subject area(s)* 
  • The applicant must be able to communicate in Danish 
*If the applicant has no previous teaching experience through employment as an assistant professor or has not achieved corresponding teaching experience, the appointment will be probationary for 1 ½ years. 
The associate professor is also required to be enterprising and to possess good interpersonal skills.
Terms of employment 
The post will be filled according to the Agreement between the Danish Ministry of Finance and the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations.   • Formal pedagogic training including courses, conferences or other. 
  • Evaluation of teaching by students, employers or others. 
  • Leadership and/or administration of education including study and/or curricula committees, commissions or other. 
  • Pedagogical development including course, teaching and exam development as well as pedagogical research.  
  • Personal description of pedagogical experience, goals, methods and success in terms of student learning.

Assessment procedure: 
The selected applications will be assessed according to the Ministerial Order no. 242 of 13 March 2012 on the Appointment of Academic Staff at Universities and the University of Copenhagen’s guidelines 2013. The Assessment Committee makes a non-prioritized assessment of the academic qualifications and experience with respect to the mentioned area of research, techniques, skills and other requirements listed in the advertisement.
