Job description
The Department of Odontology wishes to appoint an Associate Professor to the research areas Cariology (2/3) and Oral Radiology (1/3).
Cariology is one of the major subjects in the dentistry curriculum with courses from the 4th term (BA) to the 4th term (MA). The courses in the BA-programme provide a thorough insight into cause, progression and treatment of diseases in the hard dental tissues, with specific focus on caries. Focus is also on pathology and diagnostics of caries and how to detect active lesion(s) at an early stage when preventive measures may stop further decay, thus avoiding operative intervention. It is important to know when operative intervention is indicated and knowledge regarding clinical and theoretical aspects that lead to optimal treatment is essential. Particular emphasis is also given to clinical and biological consequences of restorative treatment as well as the choice of dental materials used in operative intervention.
Radiology is the science of ionizing radiation, in particular electromagnetic radiation such as X-rays. The field deals with the techniques of projection, exposure and processing and the interpretation of radiographic images. Oral radiology comprises radiography of jaws, facial skeleton and skull (dentomaxillofacial radiology). The objective of teaching radiology is to enable the student to practice radiography and to interpret radiographic images.
