Professor of Environmental Valuation and Consumer Preferences

The area of environmental valuation and consumer preference elicitation is central to several research activities at the Department of Food and Resource Economics. The professorship will have a strong emphasis on the application of preference elicitation and modeling techniques for e.g., the valuation of non-market environmental goods and services, and analysis of consumer preferences for food products with environmental attributes, like novel food product types, food safety and food production techniques applied along the production chain.
 
The professor is expected to join in and lead research activities, often interdisciplinary, focused on improving methods and applications, aiming to increase validity and reliability of results and provide better decision advice for decision makers. The professor will also be actively engaged in providing policy oriented research and research based advice within the wider research field of the professorship. This could be in terms of, e.g., improved cost-benefit analysis of new environmental policies, predictions of consumer reactions to novel food product types, or food policy instruments.  
 
The professor should preferably have solid experience with survey planning and implementation, as well as experimental work, in developed and developing countries. Furthermore, the professor will contribute to the Department’s behavioral research focusing on individuals’ decision-making behavior, which includes interdisciplinary work and potentially experimental work in biometrics and sensory labs on campus.  
 
Qualifications: 
  • Applicants will be assessed based on their qualifications within the following areas: 
  • Research competences of high international standard within most of the above mentioned topical and methodological areas. 
  • A documented solid track record of publications at an international level, within the topical areas of the position. 
  • Solid experience from roles as PI or Co-PI in larger interdisciplinary research teams, including ability to raise funds for such research efforts alone and/or as part of teams. 
  • A strong documented record as main supervisor or co-supervisor for PhD students and Post Docs within the area. 
  • Experience with undertaking policy-oriented research in collaboration with the surrounding society 
  • Solid experience with academic leadership roles within the university, e.g. in the form of established committee chairs, study director experience or similar.  
Applicants are required to have university level teaching experience, documented teaching competencies of high quality and must be able to explain and reflect upon own teaching practice and portfolio. Formal pedagogical training or supervision equivalent to the University of Copenhagen’s teacher training programme for assistant professors is required. 
 
Duties include the applicant’s own research, development of the field, assessment tasks, grant applications, and research management such as supervision and training of research fellows and other staff. The successful applicant must also teach, supervise, prepare and participate in examinations, and fulfill other tasks requested by the Department, including participation in research based advisory work. 
 
Assessment of applicants will primarily consider their level of documented, original scientific production at an international level, including contributions to developments in their field, as well as their documented teaching qualifications. Academic leadership experience and managerial and out-reach qualifications of applicants including ability to attract external funding will also be asked for. Experience with research-based advisory work, e.g. for governments or the private sector, is also an advantage. 
 
The professor will be placed in the Section of Environment and Natural Resources. The section undertakes research on a wide range of issues related to the use and protection of the environment and natural resources, and includes economists as well as other social scientist with different specializations. The section furthermore undertakes significant teaching at BSc, MSc and PhD level. It also undertakes a significant volume of research and analysis work as part of research-based advisory work for the Danish government.

Terms of appointment and payment accord to the agreement between the Ministry of Finance and The Danish Confederation of Professional Associations on Academics in the State. 
 
Commencing salary for professors is currently - DKK 605.528 including annual supplement (+ pension DKK 103.545). Negotiation for salary supplement is possible.
