Assistant Professor in Chemometrics with focus on fluorescence spectroscopy and food proteins

Department of Food Science is offering a position for Assistant Professor for a period of 3 years commencing 1st September 2018 or as soon as possible thereafter.

The position is part of a Sapere Aude research leader project supported by Independent Research Fund Denmark named INSITUQUANT: In Situ Quantification of Protein Modifications in Foods. The INSITUQUANT project offers a unique possibility to explore how steady-state and lifetime fluorescence spectroscopy and advanced multivariate data analysis (chemometrics) can be used to develop quantitative in situ methods for protein modifications in foods. The developed in situ methods will be validated against state-of-the-art analytical chemical methods (typically based on separation techniques such as ultrahigh performance liquid chromatography combined with mass spectrometry). The successful candidate will focus on the use of lifetime and steady-state fluorescence spectroscopy and advanced multivariate data analysis on milk, beer and individual food proteins, and will be part of the Food Proteins group headed by assoc. prof. Marianne Nissen Lund: http://bmi.ku.dk/english/research/food_proteins/. Multivariate data analysis will be performed in collaboration with assoc. prof. Åsmund Rinnan from the section for chemometrics and analytical technology at Department of Food Science. 
 
The ideal candidate has the following competences and skills: 
  • PhD in chemometrics or an equivalent.  
  • Expertise in advanced multivariate data analysis. 
  • It is particularly relevant with skills in PARAFAC and related tensor methods.  
  • Experience in algorithm development e.g. in MATLAB. 
  • Expertise in analytical chemical analysis, spectroscopy in particular. 
  • Knowledge about protein chemistry.   
  • Good interpersonal and communication skills required for team work across disciplines.  
  • Ability to work independently and deliver results within deadlines.  
The assistant professor’s duties will primarily include research within multivariate data analysis and protein chemistry, including obligations with regard to publication/scientific communication and research-based teaching with associated examination obligations within chemometrics and protein chemistry. To a limited extent this may also include performance of other duties.
