Assistant Professorship in New Testament Studies
The position will be located in the Biblical Studies Section. The Biblical Studies Section focuses on the interpretation of the Biblical scriptures in the original languages, including their historical, religious, cultural and social context. Insights and methods derived from philology (classical Greek, Biblical Hebrew etc.), linguistics, archaeology, history, sociology as well as ancient and modern hermeneutical theories all play a necessary role in this endeavour.
The position is in New Testament Studies. The assistant professorship is a further education position. The primary tasks are research and research-based teaching.
The ideal candidate should demonstrate an active research agenda in the area of Early Christianity, including both so-called orthodox and heterodox communities and their scriptures. Skills in languages in addition to ancient Greek and Hebrew, such as Coptic or Syriac, will be appreciated.
The assistant professor is expected to contribute actively to the development of the Section’s research profile. The successful candidate has to be able to conduct research-based teaching within the New Testament writings, including associated examination and supervision related to the theology programmes (Bachelor, Master levels), the master programme Religious Roots of Europe and the postgraduate courses that the faculty offers. If the successful candidate does not have formal pedagogical training he/she is expected to complete the teacher training programme of University of Copenhagen.
The successful applicant must have a PhD degree or the equivalent within New Testament Studies.
In connection with the overall assessment of the individual applicant, emphasis is placed on the applicant's research and teaching potential.
Within a reasonable period of time (max. 2 years), a non-Danish-speaking appointee will be expected to acquire proficiency in Danish sufficient to teach in Danish as well as interact in Danish with colleagues and students.

Terms of employment
The employment is for 3 years and is scheduled to start August 1, 2017 or upon agreement with the chosen candidate. The place of work is at the Faculty of Theology, University of Copenhagen, Karen Blixens Plads 16, DK-2300 Copenhagen S.
The position is covered by the Memorandum on Job Structure for Academic Staff.
Terms of appointment and payment according to the agreement between the Ministry of Finance and the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations on Academics in the State.
The annual salary is currently up to DKK 357.957 plus an annual supplement of DKK 50.773,18. In addition to the salary paid directly, the University will also pay a monthly contribution to your pension fund corresponding to 17,1 % of the salary. • Applicants may choose a maximum of five publications for assessment. The publications selected must be uploaded as attachments and listed from 1 to 5.
If citing work where the applicant has been a co-author, a co-author declaration, which addresses the applicant’s share of these works, must be submitted. Material that has not yet been published can be submitted. However, please indicate if this is the case.
In addition to the material which the applicant wishes to be included in the assessment, the Assessment Committee may require further material to assess the applicant. It is the applicant’s responsibility to provide such supplementary material, should this be requested.
After the application deadline, the Dean selects applicants for assessment on the advice of the Appointment Committee. All applicants are then immediately notified whether their application has been passed for assessment.
The Dean subsequently appoints an expert assessment committee in order to make an assessment of the selected applicants for the post. Selected applicants are notified of the composition of the Assessment Committee and each applicant has the opportunity to comment on the part of the assessment that related to the applicant him-/herself.
The Appointment Committee selects candidates for interview. Interviews are expected to be held in week 26 (June 26-29, 2017).
