Department of Veterinary and Animal Sciences (IVH), Faculty of Health and Medical Sciences at University of Copenhagen is offering a PhD Fellowship in Veterinary Clinical Oncology and Biomarker Research to commence on 1 September 2017 or as soon as possible thereafter. The position is limited to three years.

Nationally and internationally cancer is the most common disease related cause of death in dogs and cats. Gastro-Intestinal cancer accounts for 8 % of all cancers in dogs and 14 % in cats. Due to non-specific symptoms which may also be related to gastroenteritis, patients are often diagnosed late in the disease process. Diagnosis is confirmed by histopathology. Recently we identified the microRNA Let-7g as a novel blood biomarker for cancer in dogs.

Project description
The objective of this project is to establish microRNA expression profiles in faecal/tissue/plasma samples as noninvasive markers for canine and feline GI cancer.

This PhD project will focus on the Molecular Biology part of this study.
