Associate Professor in Veterinary Pathology

Department of Veterinary and Animal Sciences, Faculty of Health and Medical Sciences at University of Copenhagen invites applications for a position as Associate Professor in Veterinary Pathology commencing on 1 December 2017 or as soon as possible thereafter.

Job description  
In considering applicants for the associate professorship, the main emphasis will be on the applicant’s ability to document a high level of original scientific work on an international level within the area of veterinary pathology and experimental pathology. As the associate professor will be responsible for pre- and post-graduate courses as well as PhD courses in special pathology and experimental pathology, experience with developing of teaching material in relation to special pathology and laboratory animal models will be of high priority. The applicant will be responsible for diagnostic work within the area of domestic animals as well as laboratory animals.  
 
The associate professor’s duties will primarily consist of:  
  • Research, including publication/academic dissemination  
  • Research-based teaching at pre- and postgraduate levels, including associated examination 
  • Research leadership, including guidance and supervision of students and researchers  
  • Obligation to share knowledge with the rest of society, including participation in public debate  
  • Some diagnostic work may also be required  
  • Academic assessments 
Required qualifications
Main emphasis will be put on the applicant’s ability to document original scientific work at the highest international level within the area of experimental pathology. The candidate is further expected to have documented experience with teaching special pathology, laboratory animal model pathology and biomedicine for pre- and post-graduate students. As the position also involves diagnostic work on domestic mammals and laboratory animals including morbid anatomy and histopathology, requests of diagnostic tests from other laboratories, applicants must be graduates with a registered veterinary qualification in the EU.  
 
Further, candidates for the associate professorship are required to have:  
  • Shown ability to attract funding for own research  
  • Experience with management of cross border collaboration between university and private sector  
  • Teaching qualifications such as an Assistant Professor or equivalent within the subject areas  
As the section’s research to a very high degree is focused on morphological inflammation pathology priority will be given to candidates with this research focus.  
 
The Associate Professor is also required to be enterprising and to possess good interpersonal skills.

Terms of employment
If the applicant for the position as Associate Professor has had no previous teaching experience through employment as an Assistant Professor or has not achieved corresponding teaching experience, the appointment will be probationary for 1½ years.
 
Salary and other terms and conditions of appointment are set in accordance with the Agreement between the Ministry of Finance and AC (Danish Confederation of Professional Associations) or other relevant professional organisations. The position is covered by the Job Structure for Academic Staff at Universities 2013.
