The Niels Bohr Institute (NBI) annonces the availability of an associate professorship in experimental biophysics at the Danish National Research Foundation Center of Excellence for stem cell decision making (StemPhys). 
NBI constitutes the physics department in the Faculty of Science at the University of Copenhagen with a faculty of ~70 professors and associate professors, ~100 PhD students and ~60 postdocs, and more than ~1000 research guests annually. 
 
StemPhys is a Danish National Research Foundation Centre of Excellence spanning activities both at the NBI and at DanStem in the Faculty of Health, University of Copenhagen.  It consists today of 6 core senior scientists plus 30 post docs and PhD students, and a technical and administrative staff of 3. StemPhys's research focuses on unravelling the mechanisms underlying stem cell decision making, controlling specification and on a biomechanical characterization of stem cells, developing tissue, organs and whole living organisms with an emphasis on synergistic interdisciplinary collaboration. The Niels Bohr Institute seeks a candidate with a strong international research profile in experimental biophysics and with demonstrated ability to do research at the interface between biology and physics. Additionally, the candidate should have experience in development and usage of technically advanced equipment for force-probing and quantitative microscopy for exploring the biophysics of living cells, tissues, organisms and reconstituted systems, thus strengthening StemPhys' research. The ideal candidate has demonstrated the ability to lead scientific research and accomplished successful fund-raising. Furthermore, he/she will help to identify, attract and inspire the best researchers, as well as teach and supervise students.

Applicants are required to have university-level teaching experience, documented teaching competencies and must be able to explain and reflect upon own teaching practice and portfolio. Formal pedagogical training or supervision equivalent to the University of Copenhagen teacher training program for assistant professors is required.  
 
The successful applicant is anticipated to foster and realize original ideas in a creative research environment. Also, the job includes assessment tasks, grant applications, and research management such as supervision and training of research fellows and other staff. The successful applicant must be able to teach, supervise, prepare and participate in examinations in physics courses at all levels. 
 
Assessment of applicants will primarily consider their level of documented, original scientific production at an international level, including contributions to developments in their field, as well as their documented teaching qualifications. In addition, the candidate’s ability to attract external funding will be considered.

Terms of employment 
The position is covered by the Memorandum on Job Structure for Academic Staff.  
 
Terms of appointment and payment accord to the agreement between the Ministry of Finance and The Danish Confederation of Professional Associations on Academics in the State.  
 
Commencing salary is currently – up to DKK 455.206 including annual supplement (+ pension up to DKK 77.840). Negotiation for salary supplement is possible.
