PhD fellowship in systems motor neuroscience (brainstem mechanisms involved in initiating and modulating movements) at Department of Neuroscience, Faculty of Health and Medical Sciences

A 3 year PhD fellowship researching the brainstem mechanisms for controlling movements lead by Professor Ole Kiehn Department of Neuroscience, Faculty of Health and Medical Sciences, University of Copenhagen. The start date is 1 March 2018. 
 
Job description: 
Our research attempts to understand mechanisms by which neurons and neural networks operate to generate movements. The posted PhD position focuses on the brainstem mechanisms involved in initiating and modulating movements, in particular locomotion. The employed experimental approach relies heavily on rodent in vivo experimentation and use a broad technical approach involving electrophysiology, behavioural assays, viral expression, genetically driven tracing, and mouse genetics.

Required qualifications:  
  • A MSc degree in natural/medical sciences (mandatory) 
  • Documented experience with rodent in vivo experimentation (mandatory) 
  • Documented experience with behavioral rodent assays (mandatory) 
  • Documented experience with viral and anatomical techniques (mandatory) 
  • Documented skills in communication and publication of scientific results  
  • Excellent English communication skills, both oral and written

Terms of employment:  
The successful PhD candidate will be offered a full-time position for a period of three years, contingent on a satisfactory performance, with the specific intent that it results in a PhD degree and scientific publications.  
 
It is a prerequisite for the appointment as a PhD fellow that the person concerned can be registered as a PhD fellow according to the Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation Executive Order no 18 of 14. Salary and other terms and conditions of appointment are set in accordance with the Agreement between the Ministry of Finance and AC (Danish Confederation of Professional Associations) or other relevant professional organization.
