Associate Professor in Behavioural and Experimental Economics

Department of Food and Resource Economics, Faculty of Science, University of Copenhagen invites applications for a position as associate professor within the field of Behavioural and Experimental Economics. The Department wishes to fill the position by 1 October 2018 or as soon possible thereafter. 
The Associate Professor should do theoretical and experimental research and research-based teaching on issues related to the economic and social behaviour and decision-making of individuals and groups. This could be the study of effects of defaults, social norms, culture, framing, and empathy and peer pressure on social and economic decisions. Relevant decision settings for our area could include the prevalence of cheating, the success of cooperation and other determinants of public goods provision. The Associate Professor will bridge over and collaborate with other fields and disciplines, taking advantage of the interdisciplinary setting at the Department and the Faculty of Science. The research will draw on experimental work in the field and in labs at the university. 
Applicants must have a PhD degree in behavioural and experimental economics, or equivalent, must have worked with research within relevant fields in a previous academic position, and have solid theoretical knowledge and experimental experience. The assessment of applicants concerns their qualifications within the following areas: 
  • Research competences of high international standard within several of the above mentioned topical and methodological areas within the discipline as appropriate for the level of Associate Professor. 
  • A documented solid track record of publications at an international level, within the discipline of the position, and preferably also in high quality interdisciplinary contributions. 
  • A documented and solid record of accomplishment in and ability to raise funds for research efforts alone and/or as member of teams. 
  • Preferably experience from roles as PI or Co-PI in interdisciplinary research teams 
  • Experience as main- or co-supervisor for PhD students and Post Docs within the area. 
  • Experience with undertaking problem-oriented research in collaboration with the surrounding society, e.g. private companies and organisations or public agencies is considered an advantage 
Applicants are required to have university level teaching experience, documented teaching competencies and must be able to explain and reflect upon own teaching practice and portfolio. Formal pedagogical training or supervision equivalent to the University of Copenhagen teacher-training programme for assistant professors is required.
Duties include the applicant’s own research, development of the field, assessment tasks, grant applications, and research management such as supervision and training of research fellows and other staff. The successful applicant must also teach, supervise, prepare and participate in examinations, and fulfil other tasks requested by the Department.  
Assessment of applicants will primarily consider their level of documented, original scientific production at an international level, including contributions to developments in their field, as well as their documented teaching qualifications. Managerial and out-reach qualifications of applicants including ability to attract external funding will also be considered. 
The Associate Professor will be a member of the staff in the department’s Section of Environment and Natural Resources. The section undertakes research, teaching and advisory work for the public and private sector within a range of issues related to the use, management, regulation and protection of environment and natural resources. The Section has key responsibilities in two MSc programmes and two BSc programmes, and has a large group of PhD students. The Associate Professor will be involved in PhD supervision in connection to own research topics. Terms of employment 
The position is covered by the Memorandum on Job Structure for Academic Staff.  
Terms of appointment and payment accord to the agreement between the Ministry of Finance and The Danish Confederation of Professional Associations on Academics in the State.  
Commencing salary is currently: for Associate Professors – up to DKK 461,868 including annual supplement (+ pension up to DKK 78,979) 
Negotiation for salary supplement is possible.
