A professorship in Remote Sensing of the Environment is open at the Section for Geography, Department of Geosciences and Natural Resource Management, University of Copenhagen, Denmark
The professorship should reinforce the Department’s position as a major national and international research and educational center for applied remote sensing of the environment.
The candidate must have a strong academic publication record within quantitative remote sensing for estimating biophysical land surface variables related to terrestrial vegetation monitoring.
Emphasis will be on identification and analysis of remotely sensed information on temporal trends in land degradation and vegetation cover, spanning from local to global scale observations. The candidate is expected to have demonstrated ability to attract funding, collaborate with researchers within both human and physical geography, and to act as project leader.
Applicants are required to have university level teaching experience, documented teaching competencies and must be able to explain and reflect upon own teaching practice and portfolio. Formal pedagogical training or supervision equivalent to the University of Copenhagen teacher training programme for assistant professors is required.
Duties include the applicant’s own research, development of the field, assessment tasks, grant applications, and research management such as supervision and training of research fellows and other staff. The successful applicant must also teach, supervise, prepare and participate in examinations, and fulfill other tasks requested by the Department.
Assessment of applicants will primarily consider their level of documented, original scientific production at an international level, including contributions to developments in their field, as well as their documented teaching qualifications. Managerial and out-reach qualifications of applicants including ability to attract external funding will also be considered.
The Section for Geography conducts research within a wide range of Human and Physical Geography subjects. It comprises the following research groups: Environment & Society in Developing Countries, Transformation of Cities & Landscapes, - Geoinformatics, Terrestric Ecosystem analysis and Dynamic geomorphology. The section is responsible for teaching on all levels and welcomes almost 100 new students per year.

Terms of appointment and payment accord to the agreement between the Ministry of Finance and The Danish Confederation of Professional Associations on Academics in the State.
Commencing salary is currently DKK 589,601 including annual supplement (+ pension DKK 100,822).
Negotiation for salary supplement is possible.
