Postdoc position, Bioinorganic Chemistry and Spectroscopy, Department of Chemistry, University of Copenhagen

Project: ”Harnessing the Energy of the Sun for Biomass Conversion”

Biological Chemistry Group, Department of Chemistry at University of Copenhagen is offering a 2-year postdoctoral fellowship within the field of bioinorganic chemistry and spectroscopy to study light-driven reactions of lytic polysaccharide monooxygenases. The project commences 1 April 2017 and the position is open as soon as possible thereafter.

Project

In the project we want to explore and characterize the light driven enzymatic mechanism of LPMO. We intend to oxidize cellulose by controlling the light absorption, excitation energy and long range electron transfer using biochemical, bioinorganic and biophysical methods. Understanding of ROS formation and enzyme kinetics will be part of the project. Knowledge of time resolved spectroscopy will be an advantage.

Research environment

The Biological Chemistry group at the University of Copenhagen brings together researchers from the areas of bioinorganic chemistry, biophysics and biochemistry in a strong cross-disciplinary environment. The current project is carried out in collaboration with excellent national and international groups providing a strong foundation for science of international excellence. The position is part of a Novo Nordisk Foundation Synergy program project and it is expected that there will be extensive collaboration with other postdocs and researchers on the project working across three departments: Department of Chemistry, Department Geoscience and Natural Resources and Department of Plant and Environmental Sciences.

Qualification requirements

The candidate must have a PhD within bioinorganic chemistry, biophysical chemistry, biochemistry or similar experience.

The ideal candidate has the following qualifications:

· A strong background in experimental bioinorganic chemistry

· A strong background in spectroscopy

Experience with enzyme assays as well as with basic analytic tools like HPLC and MS. The candidate must be fluent in English and the candidate should
be able to perform team-oriented as well as independent work.
