Assistant professor in Health-Enhancing Physical Activity at Department of Biomedical Sciences

Department of Biomedical Sciences wishes to appoint an assistant professor in Health-Enhancing Physical Activity for the research group Act4Life as per  1 August 2017, or as soon as possible thereafter.

The research group

Act4Life is headed by Professor and Head of Department Bente Merete Stallknecht. Act4Life investigates the mechanisms behind the health-enhancing effects of physical activity. The research group also investigates how to best implement physical activity in daily life. Current research themes include effects of physical exercise on metabolic health, energy balance and appetite regulation as well as effects of exercise interventions during menopause and pregnancy and in overweight humans.

The research

The assistant professor will be expected to develop, carry out and publish research projects on health-enhancing physical activity in collaboration with Bente Merete Stallknecht.

Additional tasks

The main focus being research, the assistant professor will also actively contribute to publication/scientific communication, grant writing and research-based supervision and teaching with associated examination obligations.

Depending on the candidate’s background and previous experience, she/he will have to complete educational training during the period of employment as assistant professor.

Start: Preferably  1 August 2017 or after agreement

Duration: 4 years


The successful candidate should have qualifications within the following areas:

  • A PhD in Life Sciences or equivalent in relation to the above subject area
  • Documented experience in research on health-enhancing effects of physical activity
  • Knowledge of grant writing
  • Expertise in scientific communication
  • Excellent English skills, written and spoken
  • Well-developed collaborative skills
  • Experience in execution of teaching

Terms of employment

Salary, pension and terms of employment will be according to the Agreement between the Danish Ministry of Finance and the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations. Currently, the monthly salary starts at 32.739 DKK/ca. 4.400 Euro plus pension. Depending on qualifications, a higher salary may be negotiated.

Non-Danish and Danish applicants may be eligible for tax reductions, if they hold a PhD degree and have not lived in Denmark the last 10 years.

The position is covered by the “Memorandum on Job Structure for Academic Staff at the Universities” of June 28, 2013.

The further process

Shortlist: After expiry of the application deadline, the superior with power to appoint selects a number of applicants for assessment on the advice of the Appointments Committee. All applicants are immediately notified whether their application has been passed for assessment. Applicants who were not passed for assessment should not expect further with regard to their application unless the shortlist is revised.

Assessment: The selected applications will be assessed according to the Ministry Order on the Appointment of Academic Staff at Universities 2012 and the University of Copenhagen’s guidelines 2013. The Assessment Committee makes a non-prioritized assessment of the academic qualifications and experience with respect to the above mentioned area of research, techniques, skills and other requirements listed in the advertisement.
