The department of Plant and Environmental Sciences (PLEN) at University of Copenhagen is seeking a skilled and dedicated Assistant Professor with experience in translational plant science within agricultural and horticultural crops. You will join an international team of scientists and work in a highly dynamic research environment. Your research will cover areas spanning from plant genetics, physiology, molecular biology, microbiology to transcriptomics and bioinformatics. You will facilitate the transfer of knowledge from advanced molecular approaches to understanding of physiological functions at the organismal level of plants. Your work will be conducted in non-model plant species covering agricultural and horticultural crops.

As Assistant Professor you will be involved with and/or responsible for:

You will work on plant responses to biotic and abiotic stress. The goal is to identify molecular factors, understand their mode of action and implement these targets in relevant breeding strategies. You are skilled in work with complex signaling pathways, screening assays and handling of transcriptome data analysis. We expect a researcher with an international publication records within the field of molecular biology, plant science and biotechnology.

We are seeking applications from researchers with formalized teaching skills as obtained in Teaching and Learning in Higher Education (Universitetspædagogikum) or equivalent courses, documented teaching experience and several years of post doc experience in hands-on work with non-model plants. Experience with collaborations with researchers from other universities and industrial partners is expected.

The assistant professor’s duties will primarily comprise research, including obligations with regard to publication/scientific communication, research-based teaching and supervision of bachelor and master students. The post may also include performance of other duties to a limited extend.

Qualification requirements
We expect you to be a highly motivated and very ambitious scientist and prefer applicants with the following competencies: 

  • PhD in agronomy, biology, plant science or other relevant area
  • Professional competencies within advanced plant physiology and molecular biology
  • Knowledge and skills within plant biotechnology, especially qPCR, RNAseq and bioinformatics
  • Ability to independently plan and conduct experiments and perform data analysis. 
  • Experience with industry collaboration projects
  • Due to teaching obligations at bachelor and master level, good communication skills in English and Danish are required

Terms of employment
The position is covered by the Memorandum on Job Structure for Academic Staff.

Terms of appointment and payment accord to the agreement between the Ministry of Finance and The Danish Confederation of Professional Associations on Academics in the State.

The starting salary is currently up to DKK 413.717 including annual supplement (+ pension up to DKK 70.746). Negotiation for salary supplement is possible.
