Postdoc position in Mechanisms of DNA repair & DNA replication at Center for Protein Research

Postdoc position in Mechanisms of DNA repair & DNA replication at Center for Protein Research

The research in the Protein Signaling Program is headed by Prof. Jiri Lukas and independent group leaders Prof. Niels Mailand, Prof. Jakob Nilsson, Dr. Jeremy Daniel and Dr. Julien Duxin. The Protein Signaling Program’s primary research focuses on signalling pathways that maintain the stability of the genome throughout the cell cycle. By joining the program you will be part of Dr. Duxin’s group and part of a dynamic and multi-disciplinary research environment present at CPR that comprises state-of-the-art facilities to protein research. Dr. Duxin’s research aims at understanding the molecular mechanisms that ensure the accurate replication and repair of the genome, and understanding how defects in these reactions can cause cancer and other diseases. To this end Dr. Duxin is using a cell-free extract system derived from the African frog, Xenopus laevis. These extracts have the remarkable capacity to recapitulate many aspects of genome maintenance including DNA replication, many DNA repair pathways and ubiquitin-mediated proteolysis. Using this system, Dr. Duxin recently established the first reaction that recapitulates replication-coupled repair of a highly cytotoxic and cancer driving lesion known as a DNA-protein crosslink (Duxin et al. 2014, Cell).

Tenure: Two years

Job description

The Protein Signaling Program at the NNF Center for Protein Research (CPR) offers one postdoc position to start on August/September 2017.

The candidate will primarily focus on identifying and characterizing novel repair factors that participate in genome maintenance.  To this end, the candidate will employ proteome and genome wide approaches combined with the power of the Xenopus system. These include utilizing and developing many different methods of molecular biology, biochemistry and computational analysis. The candidate will have access to all the state-of-the art facilities present at CPR including the Mass Spectrometry, Protein Imaging, Big Data Management and Protein Production platforms.

  • Candidates are required to have a Ph.D. degree in science or equivalent
  • Strong knowledge in molecular biology or biochemistry is required
  • Publications in internationally recognized journals is required
  • Good communication skills, both oral and written
  • Demonstrate in the letter a particular enthusiasm in mechanisms of genome maintenance

Place of employment and work

The employment is at the NNF Center for Protein Research (CPR –, University of Copenhagen, located in central Copenhagen. The research environment at CPR is vibrant, ambitious, and international, with approx. 30 different nationalities currently represented. The Center comprises modern laboratories and state-of-the-art facilities within protein science. Seminars with high-profile international speakers and regular internal research seminars are organized at the Center. English is the working language at the Center.

Terms of salary and employment

Salary, pension and terms of employment will be in accordance with the agreement between the Ministry of Finance and The Academics Central organization. Currently, the monthly salary is around 32,000-33,700 DKK (around 4,200-4,500 €) plus 17.1 % in pension contribution.

The Danish Ministry of Finance and the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations (AC) have agreed on a protocol that makes it possible for all international researchers employed by the University to achieve a pension exemption, where the pension will be paid as salary. For more information about the different pension schemes:

Your application should be submitted electronically to and include the following documents:

  1. Motivated letter
  2. Curriculum vitae, incl. education, experience
  3. Copy of PhD Diploma
