Assistant Professor in Oral Medicine and Toxicology

The Department of Odontology seeks to appoint an Assistant Professor in Oral Medicine and Toxicology to commence on 1 July 2017 or as soon as possible thereafter.

The position is full time and for a period of 3 years.

The Department of Odontology is an educational institution with approximately 450 enrolled dental students. Education is conducted at the clinic comprising 200 treatment units.

The Department is made up of a clinical section, two sections for research and education, an administration and laboratory and technical facilities.

The field of oral medicine is concerned with research and research-based teaching within clinical diagnostics and non-surgical management of oral mucosal and salivary gland disorders. Staff in the field conducts teaching at a number of other courses for dental students at the Faculty of Health and Medical Sciences.

Job description
The position entails research, including publications and scientific communication as well as research-based teaching and associated examination duties, specifically within the field of oral medicine and related fields. Teaching commitments will be in oral medicine (clinically and theoretically) and related aspects of the field and in toxicology and dental materials.

The distribution of the Assistant Professor’s functions may vary periodically according to the department’s requirements. The functions will qualify the candidate in research and teaching. During the period of employment supervision will be provided as well as opportunities of educational upgrading with a view to a final written evaluation of the Assistant Professor’ teaching qualifications.

The Assistant Professor will also be expected to participate in the development of the scientific field and in the administrative functions of the section.

Qualification requirements
• The DDS and PhD degree or the equivalent
• Research and research-based teaching experience
• Background in research within oral medicine
• Relevant scientific research experience and knowledge within the field of oral medicine and toxicology including dental materials
• Good communication skills, oral and written
• Good interpersonal and collaborative skills

Terms of employment
Salary and other terms and conditions of appointment are set in accordance with the Agreement between the Ministry of Finance and AC (Danish Confederation of Professional Associations). The position is covered by the Job Structure for Academic Staff at Universities 2013.

The process
Shortlist: After expiry of the application deadline, the superior with power to appoint selects a number of applicants for assessment on the advice of the Appointments Committee. All applicants are immediately notified whether their application has been passed for assessment. Applicants who were not passed for assessment should not expect further with regard to their application, unless the shortlist is revised.

Assessment: The selected applications will be assessed according to the Ministry Order on the Appointment of Academic Staff at Universities 2012 and the University of Copenhagen’s guidelines 2013. The Assessment Committee makes a non-prioritized assessment of the academic qualifications and experience with respect to the above mentioned area of research, techniques, skills and other requirements listed in the advertisement.
