Electronic and technical developer in Proteomics Program

 
Background 
Advanced mass spectrometry-based proteomics is a key technology in Novo Nordisk Foundation Center for Protein Research (CPR www.cpr.ku.dk) at the University of Copenhagen. We offer a position to support and maintain the proteomics platform and Clinical Proteomics group at CPR. CPR promotes basic and applied research related to proteins of medical relevance. The research scope spans in silico biology, proteomics, biochemistry and cell biology, and the unifying theme is the identification and functional exploration of proteins and protein pathways involved in disease mechanisms. CPR is located at the Faculty of Health and Medical Sciences, University of Copenhagen, in central Copenhagen, ideally suited for seamless exchange of personnel, material and lively scientific communication. The research environment at the center is vibrant, ambitious, and international, with many different nationalities represented. 
 
Job description  
The successful candidate is expected to work as a team member to provide electronic and technical support for mass spectrometry (MS) and expertise to maintain and develop the MS instrument park and the associated IT and computational infrastructure at the highest international level. Additionally, the candidate is expected to work with the clinical proteomics group in developing proteomics technology. The proteomics platform houses eight high-end HPLC-MS instruments. Our aim is to use them in a 24-7 mode of operation for both internal research projects as well as collaborations.  
 
Main tasks 
• Support fine mechanical and electronic maintenance of LC-MS machine park  
• Independent problem solving, repairs and development of new equipment 
• Exploiting new technologies like 3D printing for prototyping 
• Maintenance and development of the department’s IT environment which is part of the Danish National Supercomputer ComputerOME in collaboration with the big data platform 
• Scripting in support of daily operations and project dependent data processing 
• Assistance with column preparation 
 
Qualifications 
• We expect candidates with various and relevant backgrounds to apply.  
• Practical and technical experience as well as exposure of the applicants to competitive international research environments will be one of the main criteria  
• Prior experience and independence within high-end precision programming will be regarded a distinct advantage 
• Programming skills will be of advantage  
• Service-minded and team-player  
• Willingness to support multiple projects and interact with scientists throughout the Proteomics Program  
• Fluency in English is expected 
 
Employment conditions for electronic and technical employee 
Employment period will be from 1 December 2017 – 31 December 2019. 
 
The position as electronic and technical developer will be in accordance with the provisions of the collective agreement between the Danish Government and PROSA (association for organized IT Professionals) in salary group 3. To the salary is added a monthly contribution to a pension fund according to the collective agreement, and a supplement could be negotiated, dependent on the candidate’s experiences and qualifications.
