(211-0141/19-2E) Fixed term Associate Professor in Experimental Quantum Transport in Hybrid Nano Devices
Fixed term Associate Professor of Experimental Quantum Transport in Hybrid Nano Devices
Niels Bohr Institute, Center for Quantum Devices
Faculty of Science
University of Copenhagen
Applications are invited for a three-year position as associate professor in condensed matter physics at the Niels Bohr Institute, Center for Quantum Devices. The experimental researcher position is within the rising field of topological superconductivity. The research is mainly aimed at investigating hybrid superconducting devices based on coupled nanowires or other systems suitable for realizing the topological Kondo effect. An observation of this effect would demonstrate the non-locality of Majorana modes and therefore constitute an essential milestone within this field. The research activities involve among other developing research plan, device design, cryogenic transport measurements, analysis of data, as well as strong interactions with theory and supervision of students at all levels. Furthermore, the position may include teaching, supervision and research obligations in connection with the Nanoscience program at the Sino-Danish Center in Beijing.
The effort is mainly supported by the “Architectures for non-Abelian Anyons” Villum Young Investigator program headed by Assist. Prof. Michele Burrello.
The applicant should fulfil the following criteria: expertise in running and managing low temperature electron transport experiments, substantial research experience in electrical quantum transport in nanostructures, for example concerning hybrid quantum dot devices or semiconductor nanowires, skills in designing and developing complex nanodevices and electronic setups. Furthermore, experience and work within theoretical modelling of quantum transport is an advantage. Applicants who are established in the field, e.g. with an international network and collaborations and/or recognized reviews on relevant topics will have a preference.
Applicants are required to have university level teaching experience, documented teaching competencies and must be able to explain and reflect upon own teaching practice and portfolio. Formal pedagogical training or supervision equivalent to the University of Copenhagen teacher training programme for assistant professors is required. The applicant should have a documented record of being supervisor of students at all levels.
Duties include the applicant’s own research, development of the field, assessment tasks, grant applications, and research management such as supervision and training of research fellows and other staff. The successful applicant must also teach, supervise, prepare and participate in examinations, and fulfill other tasks requested by the Department.
Assessment of applicants will primarily consider their level of documented, original scientific production at an international level, including contributions to developments in their field, as well as their documented teaching qualifications. Managerial and outreach qualifications of applicants including ability to attract external funding will also be considered.
Further information on the Department and Center is found here: https://www.nbi.ku.dk/english/ and https://qdev.nbi.ku.dk.
Inquiries about the position can be made to Assist. Prof Michele Burrello firstname.lastname@example.org.
The position is open from 1 December 2019 or as soon as possible thereafter.
