Postdoc in Organic and Medicinal Chemistry at the Department of Drug Design and Pharmacology

Faculty of Health and Medical Sciences
University of Copenhagen

A postdoc position for 2 years within synthetic organic and medicinal chemistry is available at the Department of Drug Design and Pharmacology, University of Copenhagen, starting 1st of December 2019 or as soon as possible thereafter.

The research environment
The position is in group of Ass. Professor Elisabeth Rexen Ulven ( at the Department of Drug Design and Pharmacology. The research of the group is within organic and medicinal chemistry targeting GPCRs with focus on development of tool compounds for carboxylate sensing GPCRs. The Department of Drug Design and Pharmacology ( represents a strong research environment that is leading in medicinal chemistry and neuropharmacology. The University of Copenhagen ( was founded in 1479 and is ranked 29 in the world (ARWU2018).

The project
G-protein coupled receptors (GPCRs) are highly druggable and one of the largest groups of drug targets today, but many receptors remain to be fully explored. The overall aim of this project is to develop novel tool compounds that will enable or facilitate biological and pharmacological investigations of carboxylate-sensing GPCRs as potential drug targets. Key tasks in this postdoc position includes design and synthesis of ligands and development of fluorescent tracers for selected carboxylate sensing GPCRs. The project is financed by the Lundbeck Foundation.

The successful candidate will have the following qualifications:

  • A PhD in organic or medicinal chemistry, or a closely related area
  • Broad experience with synthetic organic chemistry
  • High motivation, excellent interpersonal and collaboration skills, independence, skills in efficient project planning and execution
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills in English

The following qualifications are not mandatory but will contribute to a positive evaluation:
