This position offers the opportunity to work in a collaborative multi-disciplinary team engaged in translational stem cell research. Our efforts are focused on understanding the mechanisms involved in the genesis or progression of several neurological and neuropsychiatric disorders (Huntington’s disease, schizophrenia, ALS-FTD and leukodystrophies). In particular, we are interested in defining the differences in the dynamic regulation of genes and signalling pathways between normal and diseased hESC derived glial precursor cells as a way to identify novel therapeutic targets and develop alternative strategies for treatment of human neurodegenerative diseases.

Tasks and responsibilities

The applicant will be involved in a research project related to investigating the role of glial pathology in the genesis of neurodegenerative disease ALS-FTD (amyotrophic lateral sclerosis and frontotemporal dementia) using patient iPSCs-derived glial progenitors and human glial-chimeric mouse model.

The successful candidate should have:

  • A PhD in a relevant scientific area (neuroscience, developmental neurobiology)
  • Experience in cell culture and functional stem cells culture assays
