Bioinformatician for the Data Analytics Platform

We are looking for a highly skilled and motivated Bioinformatician with the ambition of working with large-scale life science data in order to propel the research in the Data Analytics Platform at Novo Nordisk Foundation Center for Basic Metabolic Research (CBMR) to start September 1, 2024, or after agreement.

About us

The Novo Nordisk Foundation Center for Basic Metabolic Research (CBMR) was established in 2010 to conduct fundamental research on metabolism. The Center has around 260 employees, consisting of 21 research groups and 5 technology platforms, who work in a vibrant international research environment with a focus on interdisciplinary collaboration. Our researchers share a common purpose as they seek to transform the basic understanding of the mechanisms involved in metabolic health and disease, and to accelerate this knowledge toward new prevention and treatment strategies. The Center’s research has resulted in seminal discoveries as to how genes, hormones, and environmental factors influence metabolic health and disease throughout life. The Data Analytics Platform sits at the heart of CBMR and consists of seven full-time employees. The Platform supports CBMR research by providing expertise and support for data management and processing to scientists. In total, we integrate data from >500,000 biological samples and our measurements include information on genetic variation and other omics data, anthropometrics and biochemical measurements. Your job

As a Bioinformatician in the Data Analytics Platform, you will be responsible for setting up new pipelines for data analysis including quality control, visualization and analysis of human genetic data. Your tasks will include setting up strategies for integration of different types of omics data such as lipidomics, transcriptomics, proteomics and microbiome data. Another essential part of the position will be to support the data management efforts of the Data Analytics Platform and to make datasets available to all researchers in CBMR. The Data Analytics Platform is an integral part of the center and hence, a large part of the work tasks will be focused on interacting with scientific research groups across CBMR.

Your profile

Essential criteria:

• A MSc bioinformatics, applied statistics, computer science, systems biology or similar. A PhD is a strong added value.
• Strong experience with human genetics or metagenomics data and analysis, e.g., SNP array data and/or sequencing data
• Skilled in programming in R and Python
• Competent in the Unix shell and with experience in an HPC environment
• Highly motivated person with strong collaborative skills
• Track record of sharing knowledge and expertise with a multidisciplinary team
• Experience with code version control
• Fluent in spoken and written English

Desirable criteria:

• Solid knowledge of statistical analyses
• Experience in working with multi omics data
• Experience in working with human microbiome data

Terms of salary and employment
The employment as Bioinformatician is a full time and permanent position. The start date is September 1, 2024, or after agreement. Employment will be in accordance with the provisions of the collective agreement between the Danish Ministry of Finance and AC (the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations). The monthly salary will be based on the number of years of work experience (seniority) with the possibility to negotiate a salary supplement based on prior experiences and qualifications.
