Three-year veterinary post doc position in investigational radiotherapy at the Danish Center for Particle Therapy (Aarhus) with employment at University of Copenhagen
The Department of Veterinary Clinical Sciences at the University of Copenhagen invites applications for a three-year post-doctoral position in investigational radiotherapy for canine cancer patients at the Danish Center for Particle Therapy (DCPT) in Aarhus Denmark.
The position is available from 1 September 2026, or as soon as possible thereafter.
Information about the two departments can be found at: https://ikv.ku.dk/english/ and https://www.en.auh.dk/departments/the-danish-centre-for-particle-therapy/
Our research
This research project investigates a novel type of radiotherapy in family-owned dogs with cancer and how tissue oxygen levels affect treatment efficacy and toxicity. The ultimate goal is to support the development of this new treatment modality for use in humans with cancer.
Importantly, the project is a collaboration between Copenhagen and Aarhus University, but with the majority of the research taking place in Aarhus. Hence, the post doc will have his/her primary workplace at the Danish Center for Particle Therapy in Aarhus, but with some working days in Copenhagen. During the project period, at least one (up to 2 months) research externship is planned at University of Pennsylvania.
Your job
You will be part of the proton FLASH radiotherapy group at the Danish Center for Particle Therapy (Aarhus University Hospital) and the veterinary FLASH group at the Dept. of Veterinary Clinical Sciences (University of Copenhagen). You will play an important role in connecting these two research groups across Denmark and establishing comparative veterinary trials at the DCPT and Aarhus University. Your main project involves recruitment of privately-owned dogs with solid malignant tumors into the FLASH project at DCPT, where functional imaging and radiotherapy will be performed alongside in vivo and in vitro assays to evaluate efficacy and toxicity and variables modifying these. You will work closely with referring vets and dog owners and with molecular imaging-researchers at the PET/CT section at Aarhus University and the FLASH radiotherapy-researchers at both DCPT and the Dept. of Veterinary Clinical Sciences. Based on your research findings, you will write and publish in international peer-reviewed journals and present results at international conferences.
