PhD fellow in Human/Molecular Physiology

Department of Nutrition, Exercise, and Sports, Faculty of Science at University of Copenhagen is offering a PhD scholarship in Human/Molecular Physiology commencing 01.03.2019 or as soon as possible thereafter.
Description of the scientific environment.
The molecular physiology section focuses on how regulation of energy metabolism influences health and prevents development of disease. We focus on the interaction between physical activity, exercise training and nutrition. It is well known that regular physical activity and nutrition is important for maintaining health yet the underlying molecular mechanisms are not known but likely include regulation of energy metabolism particularly in muscle as well as cross-talk between muscle and other organs. We research from "molecule to man" including techniques of molecular biology, transgenic organisms and human beings.
Project description
This PhD project has focus on human experimentation elucidating the interplay between exercise and insulin action. The project will involve healthy lean subjects as well as obese insulin resistant subjects. Blood and tissue sampling allows biochemical and advanced omics analyses defining muscular adaptions to exercise key to the insulin sensitization effect of exercise.
