Assistant Professor of Sensory and Consumer Science

The Department of Food Science at the University of Copenhagen opens the position of Assistant Professor in Sensory and Consumer Science. The candidate will join the Section for Food Design and Consumer Behaviour at the Department and should be capable of conducting and developing inter-disciplinary research at the interface of food design and consumer perception. The position will involve collaborations within the department and with national and international academic and industry partners.
The position is for a period of 3 years. 
 
The candidate should develop collaborative research within the areas of food perception, consumer preferences and sensory design of eating behaviour with the overall aim to contribute to food designs for different consumer populations. The Assistant Professor must have knowledge about the principal methodologies used in sensory characterisation of foods and beverages as well as consumer evaluation. 
 
The appointee must have qualifications within the following areas: 
  • An academic degree in food science supplemented with a PhD in sensory science 
  • Experience in sensory analysis, experimental designs and evaluation methods 
  • Consumer research methodologies including acceptance testing 
  • Data analytical skills of analysing sensory and consumer data, including linkage to instrumental data 
In addition, the appointed must be able to  
  • Conduct cross-disciplinary research  
  • Initiate and participate in research collaborations with national and international partners within academia and food industry 
  • Show initiatives and take responsibility for research management, experimental planning, data handling, publication and dissemination of scientific outcomes to different stakeholders 
  • Provide student focused and research-based teaching, including development of teaching materials 
The assistant professor’s duties will primarily include research, including obligations with regard to publication/scientific communication and research-based teaching with associated examination obligations within sensory science. To a limited extend this may also include performance of other duties.
