150146 Professor of Medical and Oral Immunology (Part Time 20 %)

The University seeks to appoint a professor to the Department of Odontology to commence on 1 February 2020.

When considering applications for the professorship, the main emphasis will be on the applicant's ability to document a high level of original scientific work at an international level within the area of medical and oral immunology.
The appointee is expected to pursue an independent and internationally competitive research programme within the Department of Odontology, focusing on studies of immune responses in patients with chronic inflammatory diseases, including the interplay between oral and systemic disease. A strong record in immunology is required. Applicants with research interests that complement research in oral and systemic inflammation, with particular emphasis on aspects of both innate and adaptive immunity, will be preferred. Close collaboration and a formal affiliation with the nearby Copenhagen University Hospital Rigshospitalet are required.
The professor’s responsibilities will primarily consist of:
- Research, including publication/academic dissemination
- Research-based teaching, including associated examination
- Research leadership, including guidance and supervision of researchers
- Obligation to share knowledge with the rest of society, including participation in public debate
- Academic assessments
The teaching commitments will be in immunology. The candidate is expected to mentor graduate and PhD students, pursuing their Master’s degree or PhD. Appointees are expected to be able to teach in Danish.
The successful candidate must hold an MD, PhD, or equivalent in medical or biological sciences and must have proven postdoctoral training, as well as supervising experience and teaching qualifications corresponding at least to those obtained as an associate professor. The candidate must have documented communicative and collaborative skills, and must, through publications, have demonstrated significant research on human chronic inflammatory disease, including oral inflammation and aspects of both innate and adaptive immunity, with a high activity over recent years.
The successful applicant should be able to:
- Document a high degree of original academic production at an international level, including considerable contributions to the development of the academic discipline
- Manage research and other management functions, e.g. engage in the university’s external academic activities, as well as knowledge and technology transfer
- Provide research-based teaching
The professor is also required to possess good interpersonal and communicative skills.
Terms of employment
Salary and other terms and conditions of appointment are set in accordance with the Agreement between the Ministry of Finance and AC (Danish Confederation of Professional Associations) or other relevant professional organisations.
The position is covered by the Job Structure for Academic Staff at Universities (2013).
