The Department of Veterinary Clinical Sciences (IKV) invites applications for a highly motivated and academically ambitious Associate Professor in Veterinary Clinical Neurology to commence on November 1, 2026, or as soon as possible thereafter.

Based on these, we aim to establish a new standard for cross-disciplinary research, clinical education, and innovation in animal health and disease, and be among Denmark's best public workplaces. Our Research
Veterinary Neurology is part of the Section for Diagnostic Imaging, Companion Animal Surgery, and Clinical Specialties, Department of Veterinary Clinical Sciences. It comprises a committed team of researchers and clinicians, including one National specialist, one affiliated Professor DipECVN, active PhD fellows, and senior neurology clinicians. The group supports residency training under the European College of Veterinary Neurology (ECVN).
The Veterinary Clinical Neurology group is a group of highly dedicated and enthusiastic veterinary neurology researchers and clinicians with a strong network of leading national and international veterinary and human neurologists and neuroscientists. Our current research focuses on clinical and comparative aspects of veterinary neurology in companion animals, including disease phenotyping, neuroinflammatory and neurodegenerative mechanisms, and biomarker discovery for CNS autoimmune disorders, epilepsy, canine cognitive dysfunction, and neuropathic pain. A new cross department companion animal and equine strategic area in neurology, orthopedics, sports-medicine and rehabilitation is starting in 2026.
Clinical activities are anchored at the University Hospital for Companion Animals, a high-volume referral center receiving primary, secondary and tertiary care cases. We also provide consulting, continuing professional education seminars for fellow veterinarians in primary practice, and an international postgraduate master’s program within Companion Animal Clinical Sciences (www.cacs.ku.dk).
Your Job
This is a permanent position. In considering applications for the associate professorship, the main emphasis will be on the applicant´s ability to document a high level of original scientific work at an international level in companion animal and large animal clinical neurology. You are expected to take leadership in research, teaching, and clinical service development in companion animal clinical neurology and extending this service to our University Hospital for Large Animals.
Your tasks will include:

Conducting research, including applying for external funding, publishing and disseminating findings.

Research leadership particularly in relation to our new cross department companion animal and equine strategic area in neurology, orthopedics, sports-medicine and rehabilitation, including gait analysis and pain management.

Development of big data research within veterinary neurology.

Supervision of PhD students, postgraduate masters, veterinary and bachelor’s thesis projects.

Training residents in veterinary neurology.

Research-based teaching of veterinary students and postgraduate master’s students in veterinary neurology.

Contributing to the clinical neurology service at the University Hospitals for Companion Animals and Large Animals.

Sharing knowledge with society and veterinary practitioners.

Participating in pedagogical training for assistant professors.

Communal and administrative duties related to teaching, research, and clinical service.

Profile
We are looking for a candidate with a strong academic track record and commitment to excellence in veterinary clinical neurology research and education in both companion animals and horses. The ideal applicant possesses,
Essential Skills and Experience

A PhD degree or similar in a field relevant to veterinary neurology
-
DipECVN or DACVIM (Neurology)
-
Demonstrated research experience within veterinary neurology, companion animal and/or equine sports medicine and rehabilitation, activitiy and movement analysis, pain management and machine learning.

Documented teaching experience at undergraduate or postgraduate levels.
-
DVM degree and authorization to practice veterinary medicine in Denmark, or hold a veterinary degree, which allows for a Danish Veterinary License within three months after accepting the job offer.

Proficient communication skills and ability to collaborate effectively in teams.

Fluency in English (written and spoken).
Desirable Skills and Experience

If not proficient in Danish, willingness to learn during employment.

Terms of employment
The position is a permanent position.
The average weekly working hours are 37 hours per week.
Salary and other terms and conditions of appointment are set in accordance with the Agreement between the Ministry of Taxation and AC (Danish Confederation of Professional Associations) or other relevant professional organisations.
The position is covered by the Job Structure for Academic Staff at Universities 2025.

The further process
