Postdoctoral fellowship in theoretical condensed matter physics

We seek outstanding candidates for a postdoctoral fellowship to work on condensed matter theory at the Center for Quantum Devices, Niels Bohr Institute, University of Copenhagen. An early starting date is preferred. The position is limited to 2 years.

The Project

The main objective of the project is to investigate emergent physics in solid state hybrid systems, such as superconductor-semiconductor heterostructures and various qubits platforms, all in close collaboration with experimental colleagues. Depending on the interests and background of the successful candidates, the research could involve, for example, modeling of topological superconductors, protocols for observation of nonlocal quantum information storage, topological effect in open system, or next generation superconducting qubits using hybrid materials.

The project is sponsored through an ERC Synergy grant.

Inquiries about the position can be made to Professor Karsten Flensberg (flensberg@nbi.ku.dk).

Description of the scientific environment
The position will be embedded in the condensed matter theory group (CMT) and the Center for Quantum Devices (QDev) at the Niels Bohr Institute. The research at the center is focused on quantum science aspects of solid states systems such superconductor-semiconductor hybrid devices, superconducting qubits, nanowires, and spin qubits. The center is active in both theory and experiments and most projects are carried out in collaborations between experimental and theoretical researchers. The center enjoys connections to other quantum science activities in Copenhagen, for example in quantum optics and mathematical quantum information.

Terms of employment

The position is covered by the Memorandum on Job Structure for Academic Staff.

Terms of appointment and payment accord to the agreement between the Ministry of Finance and The Danish Confederation of Professional Associations on Academics in the State.

Negotiation for salary supplement is possible.

If it is deemed appropriate from an overall perspective, you must be prepared to be security screened, in relation to international research and innovation collaboration, as part of the employment process at the University of Copenhagen.

The application, in English, must be submitted electronically by clicking APPLY NOW below.

Please include

  • Curriculum vitae
  • Diplomas (Master and PhD degree or equivalent)
  • Research plan – description of current and future research plans
  • Complete publication list
  • Separate reprints of 3 particularly relevant papers

The deadline for applications is 27 May 2025, 23:59 GMT +1.

After the expiry of the deadline for applications, the authorized recruitment manager selects applicants for assessment on the advice of the Interview Committee.
