Three-year veterinary research assistant position in investigational radiotherapy at the Danish Center for Particle Therapy (Aarhus) with employment at University of Copenhagen

The Department of Veterinary Clinical Sciences at the University of Copenhagen invites applications for a three-year research assistant position in investigational radiotherapy for canine cancer patients at the Danish Center for Particle Therapy (DCPT) in Aarhus Denmark.

Our research
This research project investigates a novel type of radiotherapy in family-owned dogs with cancer and how tissue oxygen levels affect treatment efficacy and toxicity. The ultimate goal is to support the development of this new treatment modality for use in humans with cancer.

Importantly, the project is a collaboration between Copenhagen and Aarhus University, but with the majority of the research taking place in Aarhus. Hence, the research assistant will have his/her primary workplace at the Danish Center for Particle Therapy in Aarhus, but with some working days in Copenhagen.

Your job
You will be part of the proton FLASH radiotherapy group at the Danish Center for Particle Therapy (Aarhus University Hospital) and the veterinary FLASH group at the Dept. of Veterinary Clinical Sciences (University of Copenhagen). You will play an important role in connecting these two research groups across Denmark and establishing comparative veterinary trials at the DCPT and Aarhus University. Your main project involves recruitment of privately-owned dogs with solid malignant tumors into the FLASH project at Aarhus University, where functional imaging and radiotherapy will be performed. You will work closely with referring vets and dog owners and with molecular imaging-researchers at the PET/CT section at Aarhus University and the FLASH radiotherapy-researchers at both DCPT and the Dept. of Veterinary Clinical Sciences. You will be part of a multidisciplinary team and backed up by experienced researchers and clinicians from both the basic, human and veterinary side. Based on your research findings, you will write and publish in international peer-reviewed journals and present results at international conferences.

Profile
We are seeking a highly motivated and enthusiastic veterinarian, who is interested in clinically relevant research.

Essential experience and skills:

• A DVM degree and eligibility to practice veterinary medicine in Denmark
• The ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team
• Experience with veterinary clinical medicine including canine anaesthesia

Desirable experience and skills:

• Excellent written and spoken English
• Experience with veterinary clinical oncology
• FELASA course

Place of employment
The place of employment is at the Department of Veterinary Clinical Sciences, Faculty of Health and Medical Sciences, University of Copenhagen, however the daily workplace is the Danish Center for Particle Therapy, Aarhus University.

Terms of employment 
The average weekly working hours are 37 hours per week.

The position is a fixed-term position limited to a period of three years. The start date is 1 October 2026, or after agreement.

The position is covered by the Memorandum on Job Structure for Academic Staff.

Terms of appointment and payment accord to the agreement between the Ministry of Finance and The Danish Confederation of Professional Associations on Academics in the State.

Negotiation for salary supplement is possible.
